Interstate 35 in Austin was shut down for eight hours due to an 18-wheeler going up in flames. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the tractor trailer carried pork bellies. Flames consumed the truck when fire, police and TxDOT crews arrived. At some point, the fire spread through the grass near the access road. According to the Austin Fire Department, one of the truck driver’s two dogs was killed in the fire, but fortunately no one else was injured. The interstate after numerous hours of emergency road work was reopened around 8:30 p.m. Monday.
